Learn how to read the labels: If you know how to read labels, you can be able to choose the foods that you consume more intelligently. Once you start to pay attention to food labels and what the various food ingredients mean, you will find that there are lots that you may decide no longer to purchase. Also, it is not true that low fat foods do not contain sugar.

Lower your carbs: You need to be aware that refined or processed carbs will convert to sugar when you eat it. Your worst enemies are breads, pastas and snacks which are made with refined (or white) flour. Whole wheat products may offer a healthier option.

Refrain from adding sugar to your foods. If you like your coffee or tea sweet, start to cut back on the sugar that you have been piling into your drink. Use ingredients that have natural sweetness rather than add refined sugar to your cooking. Tomatoes, apples, carrots and oranges are fruits that you can turn to in this respect.

Consume a varied diet: A varied diet can help you cut down on your sugar intake. Concentrate on a rainbow of colors when you buy foods. Always choose fresh produce over foods that come in a can or bottle. You will get more fresh fruits and vegetables and less refined products when you shop with this mentality.

Consider alternative sources of sugar: While natural sugars such as raw sugar or honey are better for you than refined sugar, your body really does not know the difference. Therefore, you need to be aware of your total sugar intake, even from fruits and natural fruit juices. Artificial sweeteners are known to be toxic; so you may want to avoid them altogether.
