Maintaining a food diary is an idea worth exploring because it can help you to track your eating habits and to find ways to improve them. It is also especially useful when you are hoping to lose weight, wanting a change in diet or wish to measure the results of your detox plan. Most definitely, it should be able to tell if you are eating enough fruits and vegetables or if you are lacking in whole grains. Taking notes of your bowel movements provide you with the information to take necessary corrective measures to your diet plan.

A food diary does not need to look anything fancy. It can be just a notebook that you handwrite about your meals and observations about your health and body. Or if you prefer to be able to edit your notes often, you can always type them in a PC.

You will also need to have a kitchen scale, measuring cups and spoons so that you can record exact amounts of what you are eating. You also need to be fairly knowledgeable about the various nutritional terms. Put some effort into learning how to read food labels.

Obviously, a food diary will not be useful if you do not have the desire to change your eating habits. It is important to have a goal towards what you are hoping to achieve. For instance, you may want to increase the frequency of your bowel movements from once in 4 days to once a day. Or it may be that you want to reduce passing out hard stools.

On the first page of your diary, write down what is your current position. Record in terms of starting weight, height, goal that you are working towards, and additional notes.

Good luck!
