Your colon gets clogged because of the processed foods that you eat and the alcohol that you drink. You clogged your colon until it is half the size it should be. The sides of the colon can become hard that the peristaltic muscle, what is it that pushes out the fecal matter, cannot function well. It explains why several people have to strain when they are trying to push the stool out. Straining is in fact bad for the body. The sphincter muscle (end of the colon) can even become weak and have difficulty opening, leading to the formation of hemorrhoids.

If you find yourself getting hungry in just 1/2 hr after you finished a meal, chances are your colon is clogged. It occurs because body can only extract 5 to 10% of the nutrients from the foods that you eat. Your body then sends out a signal that you need more food because it is not getting enough nutrients. You eventually put on weight and yet at the same time, your body still does not get the nutrients that it needs. Overweight people often find that when they clean out the colon to find that they lose anywhere from 5, 10 even 15 pounds. Their digestion improves, so they lose weight.

If your colon is working properly, your body squeezes the liquid from the mushy food found in the large intestine. The blood absorbs the nutrients from the food, circulates it and feeds the entire body. The colon then eliminates the excess matter in a bowel movement. On the other hand, if you are not having a bowel movement after each meal, the fecal matter stays in the colon, getting squished by the next meal you eat and the next until it gets compacted against the colon wall. This cycle repeats until you have layer upon layer, upon layer of decaying matter.

Consider taking more care of your colon so as to prevent digestive diseases. More and more people are now beginning to realise the importance of colon health, with more advertisements promoting colon cleansers. There is fierce competition with manufacturers selling herbal formulations designed to aid the digestive system in eliminating accumulated waste products. However, it is important that that colon cleansers should not be relied upon too heavily, for they may just rob the chance of your colon to work naturally in the case of excessive usage.

Admittedly, many turn to colon cleansers with the aim of weight loss. Blame the advertisers for touting them as products for quick results. However, you should know that it is your gastrointestinal health that you should be taking them primarily for. Chronic constipation, IBS or diarrhea are signs that colon health is at stake. When you observe such signs, you need to take appropriate action. These conditions may sound embarassing but it is important that you seek the help of your health care provider. You would need to cleanse your colon to remove any irritants that may otherwise prevent the proper functioning of this gastrointestinal segment.

As soon as you improve your bowel functions, you can begin to experience immediate benefits. You are also able to prevent the onset of digestive diseases as your colon begins to perform well. Weight loss is often experienced as a side benefit as your organs are able to absorb nutrients much better and hence, do not send you craving signals. Even people who generally report good health, can benefit from an occassional spring cleaning that the body needs.

Admittedly, while colon cleansers can help, avoid relying on them excessively. Instead, you should be eating foods that promote natural cleansing by your body. Always drink plenty of water every day. It is crucial that you allow your colon the chance to repair, heal and function normally on its own.
