Simply put, colon cleansing is the act of cleaning out the colon (or large intestine). It may be through the use of water. This process is sometimes referred to as colon irrigation or colonic. In some instances, herbal decoctions are added to the water to help enhance the process. Laxatives may also be taken as well as the introduction of good bacteria into the system such as Lactobacilli. Suppositories are also used to this end.

At first it was mainly used in alternative medicine, but now has been accepted as a great way to improve your health! Colon cleansing helps to get rid of waste that has accumulated in the colon, enabling it to once again function properly. Colon cleansing is reputed to help prevent cancer of the colon and blood poisoning, precisely by making sure that the colon functions as it should.

Colon cleansing, in the form of colonics, should be performed only by a licensed professional, and not too often. Colonics performed within short periods of time may cause rectal inflammation, irritation, and perforation. The body may also become dependent on this procedure as a means of getting rid of waste. Natural bowel movement or the impulse to defecate may cease completely. It would be wise to start using enemas after having an initial colonic.

Though considered by some traditional western medicine practitioners as a lot of flim flam, it cannot be denied that colon cleansing helps patients maintain good bowel movements, which is considered key to good health, even in conservative circles.

Colon cleansing ensures that the colon does what it is supposed to do, that is to get rid of waste materials that will eventually become toxic to the system if not purged. Think of it as a trash can full of trash (biodegradable trash) inside your body that you never throw out. Just imagine how awful it would be not to get rid of all that trash! This will happen if the colon can no longer efficiently get rid of the waste through normal bowel movements.

Colon cleansing truly plays an invaluable part in the scheme of things. Colon cleansing is a cheap and very effective way of ensuring good health. A clean colon will guarantee that all the vitamins in your food will be properly absorbed and used for the benefit of you body! A clean colon will also keep your body free of a lot of waste and toxins that play a big part in creating diseases! Read a good review, from an end user, before purchasing and using a cleansing program.

I don’t recommend choosing a colon cleansing regime simply because you are in a hurry, but sometimes life comes at us fast and we need to adapt. Many times colon cleansing methods require a person to stay near a bathroom. If you are planning to travel or have a long commute, you may need to find a colon cleanse that can be performed in a short period of time. This method requires one day near a bathroom. The rest of the days require dietary changes, but you can proceed with your life regardless. The entire process takes 3 to 4 days as opposed to the weeks required for some methods.

On the first day, begin with a natural laxative drink made with 1 tbsp. Epsom salts, 1/4 cup of warm water and 1/4 cup of orange, lime, lemon, or grapefruit juice. Be sure to use real juice, not a juice cocktail. Follow this up with a juice made from one quart of water with one cup of citrus juice. Drink one cup every hour throughout the first day. Drink as much water as you want throughout the day.

At this point, you may think, how much cleaner can my colon be after naturally pushing so much through my intestines? However, hardened fecal matter may still line your colon. For two days following your initial cleansing, drink a juice made with one cup of apple juice, one cup of pure water, and two teaspoons of psyllium husk. Drink this juice four times a day. Follow a liquid diet of juice, broth, tea, and water.

By the third day of the detox, you should see the hardened fecal matter passing out of your system. Do not be alarmed if it is very dark, ropey, or bad smelling. You are removing feces that has been impacted in your colon for a long time and it is likely that it won’t be pleasant.

You can further this process or get more stubborn impaction out by using enemas every day of this colon cleansing. Saline or mineral oil enemas are safe and easy to perform.

Please only follow the instructions above, after checking with your Naturopathic Doctor that it is safe for you to do so. If you are pregnant or suffer from some major disease, please refrain from colon cleansing or consult your doctor first. –>
