Is the process of detox a fad, or is it something your loved ones may need? Many people don’t believe detoxification is necessary. They may walk around complaining that they are always tired or have chronic headaches, and yet they think detoxification is a silly fad. What they don’t understand is that the following common symptoms may indicate the need for detoxification:
• Skin Problems
• ‘Fuzzy Head’
• Bloating
• Sinus problems
• Bad breath
• Mood Instability
• Sleep Problems
• Stomach Problems/ Heart burn
• Fatigue
They may wonder why they are having symptoms of toxins in their system. If they keep a clean home in an average neighborhood with clean water, they may not expect that they have toxins. Perhaps they equate people with toxic issues to people living in smog filled cities who eat fast food on a regular basis. If you think about it, toxins can be from pollutants from your own car and home as well as toxins you encounter in the work place. Many toxic substances are beyond our control. Even allergies to natural things such as dust mites or pollen can act as toxins to your body.
When starting a skeptical friend on a detox program, consider starting with something simple like adding lemon to their diet several times a day and having them try a diet of foods for detox; such as cabbage, fish, and plenty of clean water. If you start them immediately with a glass of salt and lime, you may lose them before they even start!
It can be frustrating to deal with loved ones who are experiencing symptoms from toxins who won’t help themselves when you can easily see how a detoxification diet, liver cleanse, or kidney cleanse would make them feel much better. But, sometimes you have to start slow and show them how well it works by example. Once they see you living better, they may be ready to take steps toward their own lifestyle of detox.

Acupuncture For Detoxification

You can also use acupuncture for detoxification purposes. Acupuncture is a principle component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM is based on the flow of Qi (chi),the vital energy that nourishes and harmonises the functions of the body. When there is a blockage in Qi, illnesses result. Acupuncture helps to stimulate and to unblock any “blockages” in the flow of Qi.
How acupuncture for detoxification works is that it has a natural diuretic effect. It helps your body eliminate toxins through the urinary tract. This is why you will see a widespread use of acupuncture for drug detox programs.
I also found out from my TCM practitioner that an acupuncture treatment can also help reduce appetite or cravings, even as it eliminates blockage of the Qi. Once you regain your appetite, you do not feel as much desire for foods normally associated with sources of toxins. When you eat toxic foods, you immediately get a feeling of heaviness in the body, as the energy flow is disrupted once more.
When you eat the proper food, you continue to feel energised. It does not take long for the body to learn which foods provide benefit, and this is why acupuncture for detoxification is so effective.
Acupuncture is one therapy that I have resisted in trying, due to the perception that pain may be experienced. I have been told that this is a misconception. You should not feel pain, especially if the practitioner is skilled.
